WINSTED — Poets, writers, musicians, and artists are always welcome at the Beardsley and Memorial Library’s Open Mic night, which is held every third Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m.
The open mics are organized by Mario Zecca, who has hosted the event for a year.
“If you write poetry, short stories, or songs, you can come here to perform them to like-minded people,” Zecca said. “It’s important because there are not many venues for people who come up with original material. Whatever you can fit into the box we’d like to hear it. We hope people come out here and have a good time.”
One of the many writers who has been coming out to the library’s open mic events is Justin Conn.
“I’ve met a lot of people here at these open mic nights,” Conn said. “I’ve noticed that there aren’t too many open mic nights in Winsted. It’s good to have a place where poetry is appreciated. People tend to strike me as being interested in writing, but not as interested in poetry. I wish poetry would be more appreciated in America, just like it is in other countries.”
The Beardsley and Memorial Library is located at 40 Munro Pl. and for more information go to beardsleylibrary.org
