WINSTED — Starting next month, makeup artist and Whiting Mills artist studios tenant Tyler Green will be selling “monsters.”

Specifically, Green has created the Monster Kidz Box, a kit that teaches children, and includes high-quality materials that allow children to create their own monster mask.

Green said that he came up with the idea for the product based on his own childhood experiences.

“I wanted to come out with something that represents the kid in me, and that kind of what inspired this,” Green said. “When I was young I tried to get materials from the big suppliers to create my monster masks. I would be so disappointed because I couldn’t get those results that the professionals did. I didn’t know how to make a mold or understood that at 6 years-old that you mix plaster with water it hardens. You don’t quite understand that kind of chemical reaction as a child.”

Green said the purpose of the monster mask kit is to allow children to create their own almost professional masks easily.

Each kit comes with a high-quality monster mask and paint, along with a link to an instructional video with Green teaching how to create their monster.

Green said that he will offer four different types of Monster Kidz kits: a zombie, a creepy doll, a spooky ghoul, and a raven.

“They are not your typical DIY kits,” Green said. “Each mask comes with its special accessory. The zombie comes with a skin you can put on, which is a mixture of glue and paper. The doll comes with a wig and lashes. You can completely get a look out of each one of these cool designs.”

Green said that the kits are not just for the Halloween season.

“It kind of is, but then again there’s the world of cosplay,” Green said. “People do cosplay all year round and it’s not a seasonal thing. This is a year-round activity.”
