Riverton Fair

RIVERTON — Due to the continuing Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s Riverton Fair has been canceled.
The fair, which is typically held in October, joins a long list of events and fairs that have all been canceled due to the pandemic.
The announcement of the fair’s cancellation was made on the fair’s Facebook page:
“After sincere due diligence, we feel our only responsible action is to cancel the Riverton Fair for this year. The fair is tradition and it is family, from our officers and volunteers, vendors and exhibitors, to our loyal fairgoers…and we must protect that. See you all in 2021.”
The fair has been held continuously since 1909 and is organized by the Union Agricultural Society of Barkhamsted, Colebrook and Hartland, Inc.
In an interview at last year’s fair, Fair President Matthew Cook said that the Riverton Fair exemplifies the best traditions of New England.
“I think we have a lot of people always at the fair because of the history of it,” Cook said. “A lot of people come year after year because of their sense of nostalgia. Generations and generations of families have always come to this fair, including my family. It’s always been a nice rural event.”
