NEW HARTFORD — In its 90 year history, despite being a successful business in downtown Torrington, Petricone’s Pharmacy has never opened other locations anywhere.
That has changed as Petricone’s opened its second location on Monday, Aug. 24.
In an interview with The Winsted Phoenix, owner Joe Petricone Jr. said that, after 90 years, that “I guess it’s time for a second store.”
“I’ve been looking to open a store in New Hartford for almost seven years,” Petricone said. “I spoke to many people about this expansion including First Selectman Dan Jerram and John Burdick from the Economic Development Commission.”
Petricone and his family moved to New Hartford 10 years ago.
“I love it’s town because it’s quaint,” Petricone said. “There’s a gap here because there’s no pharmacy in New Hartford. There used to be years ago, but there’s nothing here now. Residents in New Hartford have to go to Winsted, Canton, or Torrington to get their prescriptions.”
Petricone said that the store will include a full pharmacy and some gift products as well.
“We will try to have everything here,” he said. “But right off the bat we will not be offering delivery, but that will probably come sooner than later. We want to get things settled in our store first.”
Petricone said that Pharmacist Maureen Zeiner, who has worked for Petricone’s for 32 years, will be the store manager, and Susan McGee will serve as a pharmacist for the store.
“There will be a pharmacist and a technician working at the store every day,” Petricone said. “As things get busier and if we need to add more staff we will. This store will be a full-fledged pharmacy and it will be nice for residents to not have to travel far to pick up their prescriptions.”
The store is located at 4 Bridge Street. Hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Closed on Sundays.

Petricone added that the store in Torrington, located at 110 E Main Street, will continue to operate.
“I’m very fortunate,” Petricone said. “I am the busiest I have ever been in Torrington. That’s what allowed me to open the New Hartford store. We’re in Torrington and we’re not going anywhere. We are looking forward to servicing both communities.”
