NORTHWEST CORNER — On Friday, March 12, President Joseph Biden signed into law the American Rescue Plan.
The economic stimulus package was developed to speed up the country’s economic recovery from the Covid pandemic.
The package also includes $1,400 stimulus checks to millions of low and middle-income Americans, a boost in unemployment benefits, and the creation of multiple programs to help bolster the economy.
It also includes federal aid to both municipalities and school districts.
The following is a list of estimated aid to towns and school districts in the Northwest Corner as provided by Mary Yatrousis, Communications Director of Congressman John B. Larson’s office. The list was sent to The Winsted Phoenix on March 12.
Winsted: $1.05 million
Winchester School District: $1.745 million
Region 7 School District: $198,000
Torrington: $3.36 million
Torrington School District: $6.128 million
Barkhamsted School District: $58,000
Colebrook School District: No aid.
New Hartford: $660,000
New Hartford School District: $121,000
Norfolk School District: $190,000
