According to data released by the state on Thursday, April 22, the Covid test positivity rate for the state is at 1.78 percent.
At his press conference on April 22, Gov. Ned Lamont said that the state’s seven day test positivity rate average is below 2.5 percent, which he said is the lowest it has been in a month and a half.
“We feel that we are on stable footing,” Gov. Lamont said. “It gives us confidence as we go forward.”
He said that one year ago the state hit its peak in hospitalizations due to Covid with 1,972 residents hospitalized.
As of April 21, 515 residents are hospitalized, including 13 in Litchfield County.
Also as of April 21, 8,039 have died due to Covid, an additional 12 people since April 20.
“But at one point we were losing 100 people a day,” Gov. Lamont said. “I still continue to be confident that vaccinations are making a difference.”
Meanwhile, according to state statistics, 1,175,362 residents are fully vaccinated, while 1,760,545 residents have received their first dose.
“Sixty percent of adults 16 years and older have received their first dose,” he said. “Compare that to Georgia and Alabama where only 30 percent of the people have been fully vaccinated. We have got to keep it going. But supply is more than demand in many places.”
