Gov. Ned Lamont at his press conference on Thursday, May 6.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Connecticut is the first state to reach 50 percent of the adult population to be fully vaccinated. At his press conference on Thursday, May 6, Gov. Ned Lamont announced that, as of May 7, the state will have reached the national goal set by President Joseph R. Biden: 70 percent of the population who received the first dose of the Covid vaccine. President Biden set a goal for 70 percent of the United States population to have received at least the first dose of the Covid vaccine by July 4. Gov. Lamont said at his press conference that “the numbers continue to trend in the right direction” when it comes to Covid cases statewide. The latest statistics show that the test positivity rate is now at 1.92 and that 324 residents are currently hospitalized.

Meanwhile, in Litchfield County, as of May 5, three residents have been hospitalized for Covid symptoms, which is the lowest rate in quite some time.

There are now 8,131 deaths throughout the state due to Covid.

“It’s worth remembering in all of these fatalities, 99 plus percent are folks who have not been vaccinated,” Gov. Lamont said. “It’s also worth noting that this is the first week in well over a year where that has not been one fatality in any of our nursing homes. It’s a reminder that vaccines work.”
