TORRINGTON — The nonprofit Northwest Corner animal welfare organization held its annual Paws-A-Palooza raffle benefit at St. John Paul the Great Academy on Saturday, June 26.
According to its website at fortheloveofjack.org, the nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization was founded to assist families who cannot afford healthcare or food for their pets.
Over the years, the organization has a pet food bank, has assisted families with veterinary bills, and has helped defray the cost of wellness exams.
The benefit included raffle items from various donors in the area.
Organization member Michele Smedick said that the charity has been doing alright despite the pandemic, which has caused a drop in donations at other organizations.
“We’ve had a lot of people do Facebook fundraising for us, so it’s always nice when the checks have all come in,” Smedick said. “And every little bit has helped us help people’s pets in the area.”
“We just love giving back to our community,” member Sherrie Gioia. “All of our members are volunteer-based. All of our donations come from outside sources.”
Gioia said that the organization currently has 20 volunteers but is always looking for more. For more information go to fortheloveofjack.org
