NEW HARTFORD —  The New Hartford House, originally built in 1850 in the downtown area, has been demolished.

“Hard for me to watch…so many memories,” First Selectman Daniel Jerram posted on his Facebook page as the building was being demolished.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, but state and local officials are still investigating.

Residents have written in chalk messages of support and gratitude to firefighters and others on a still closed Route 44.
