TORRINGTON — This summer, area children were paired up with golf pros at the Torrington Country Club through the Charlie Ormsby Children’s Golf Clinic.
The clinic is funded by the annual Charlie Ormsby Memorial Golf Classic tournament, which was held in May at the club and sponsored by the Litchfield Hills Credit Union.
The Golf Classic also funds the United Way of Northwest Connecticut.
During the five-day clinic, which ran this year in late July, children eight to 14 years old learned about the basics of golf from the pros at the club.
“Charlie was a board member who took up golf late in his life,” Executive Director Owen Quinn said. “He found it to be a great sport and, at the same time, a sport that instills great values in these young children. This includes learning about etiquette and how to behave on a golf course.”
“I always look forward to these clinics every year,” club assistant golf pro-Jim Hathaway said. “All of these children are great fun and it is a pleasure to work with them.”
