TORRINGTON — A motorcycle rider was killed in an accident on Friday, Aug. 13 in an accident on East Main Street near McDonald’s and the Walmart/Market 32 Plaza.
According to Torrington Police Detective Kevin Tieman, the incident took place at 9:46 p.m. when a 2011 Jeep wrangler was traveling west on East Main Street and attempted a left-hand turn across the east bound travel lines, heading towards the shopping plaza.
“A 1989 Honda CB400F motorcycle was traveling East on East Main Street when it struck the Jeep Wrangler. The operator of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash,” Tieman wrote in his press release. “The operator of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Arriving Officers stated that the motorcycle operator was conscious and complaining of pelvic pain. The operator was transported to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital (CHH) where his condition rapidly deteriorated. Lifestar helicopter had been called to transport the operator to Hartford Hospital, but the operator died as a result of his internal injuries while at CHH.”
The operator of the Jeep, a 58-year-old male from Harwinton, and the passenger of the vehicle, his 16-year-old daughter, cooperated with the police department.
The driver said that the biker was not in his line of sight at the time of his turn and that no headlights were approaching him when he made this maneuver.

Arriving Officers stated that the motorcycle operator was conscious and complaining of pelvic pain,” Tieman wrote. “The operator was transported to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital (CHH) where his condition rapidly deteriorated. Lifestar helicopter had been called to transport the operator to Hartford Hospital, but the operator died as a result of his internal injuries while at CHH.”
The driver and victim were not identified in the press release.
