NORTHWEST CORNER —  Winsted, Barkhamsted, and New Hartford are all now under “orange alert” according to the state – which means that there are 10 to 14 new cases per 100,000 residents.

Torrington remains under a “yellow alert” – five to nine new cases per 100,000 residents.
As of Aug. 19, Litchfield County has 15,288 confirmed cases, an increase of 156 cases from last week, and 10 residents hospitalized for Covid symptoms which is an increase of seven residents from last week.
The state is reporting 365,425 total cases and a current test positivity rate of 3.37 percent.
Meanwhile, according to various published reports, vaccine booster shots are expected to be available to residents starting in late September.
However, no definitive schedule has been set by the state or federal governments.

Hartford HealthCare Health Center in Winsted Offering Free COVID-19 Vaccines

Need a COVID-19 Vaccine?  Members of the community 12 years and over can receive FREE COVID-19 vaccines at these two Hartford HealthCare locations during the month of July:

  • Hartford HealthCare Health Center – 80 South Main Street, Winsted on Tuesdays and Thursdays 10AM to 12PM
  • Charlotte Hungerford Hospital – 540 Litchfield Street, Torrington on Saturdays, 9AM to 4PM

Walk-ins are welcome or schedule an appointment with your MyChart account.  Those under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

COVID-19 Mobile Vaccination Clinics Coming to Winsted

The Town of Winchester School System has teamed up with the State of Connecticut Department of Health and Griffin Health Services to hold a mobile COVID 19 vaccination clinic at Isabelle Pearson Middle School on the following dates:

  • Saturday August 28th from 10AM to 5PM
  • September 18th from 10AM to 5PM

These are walk-in clinics, and no pre-registration is required.

Griffin Health will have the Pfizer vaccine available for anyone age 12 and older.

The second clinic on September 18th will be held for for everyone to receive their second dose of the vaccine that received their first dose at the August 28th clinic.
