TORRINGTON — Energy Fitness, located at 59 Field Street, held its third annual lifting competition on Saturday, Oct. 9.
The event was a benefit for Friends in Service to Humanity of Northwestern Connecticut (FISH).
To participate in the event, competitors had to donate $10 or bring in a food donation.
“There is a tremendous need in this area for food donations,” company lead trainer Brett Cateno said. “We usually have our food drive and lifting competition as separate events, but we decided to use the competition as a springboard for the drive. Our members have always been fantastic about helping out others. Within the last few years, we have seen a growing need. We felt like that, as a community-based business, we wanted to find a way to support the people in our community.”
“Our FISH Food Pantry depends on the generosity and spirit of community donors,” FISH Executive Director Deirdre Houlihan DiCara wrote via email. “I do believe it may be the most unique food raiser that I can remember.”
