Federal agents arrested Orlando Diaz-Cebada, also known as “El Leches,” in New Haven on Thursday, June 12, after he allegedly re-entered the U.S. illegally for the third time, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
Diaz-Cebada, believed to be a member of the violent Los Pochos gang, reportedly has ties to the Sinaloa Cartel, one of Mexico’s most notorious drug trafficking organizations. ICE officials say he was wanted in Mexico for the murder of a government official last year.
“This heinous murderer attempted to evade justice by hiding out in Connecticut,” said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.
Authorities tracked him to a residence in New Haven, where he was reportedly found wearing a shirt from a local restaurant at the time of his arrest.
Diaz-Cebada initially crossed the U.S. border illegally in May 2024, was deported, and attempted to re-enter just two days later. After a second deportation, he succeeded in sneaking back in a third time, remaining undetected until his recent capture.
Officials have not disclosed how long he had been in Connecticut before his arrest.
