Waterbury Man Caught With Nearly 100 Grams of Fentanyl, Other Drugs

A Waterbury man is facing multiple charges after police seized a large quantity of fentanyl, crack cocaine, and other narcotics during an arrest last week.

On June 18 around 1:32 p.m., officers attempted to stop a 2012 Acura TSX for misuse of a registration plate. The vehicle fled but was found shortly after. As officers approached, the driver allegedly tried to run but was quickly apprehended.

The suspect, 31-year-old Luis Medina-Cuevas, was charged with:

  • Possession with intent to sell narcotics

  • Sale of 1 oz of heroin

  • Sale of ½ oz of cocaine/free base

  • Operating a drug factory

  • Interfering with an officer/resisting arrest

  • Engaging police in pursuit

  • Operating an unregistered vehicle

  • Insufficient insurance

  • Misuse of registration plates

  • Failure to use a turn signal

  • Disobeying an officer’s signal

Police recovered the following items during the arrest:

  • 88.4 grams of fentanyl

  • 35.4 grams of crack cocaine

  • 202 glassine baggies of heroin packaged for sale

  • $2,685 in cash

Medina-Cuevas is currently in custody with the Connecticut Department of Corrections, according to police.
