Landscaper Arrested for Throwing Massive Party at North Carolina Mansion While Owners Were Away

A North Carolina landscaper took his job way too far when he threw a wild party at a $4.3 million mansion—without the owner’s permission.

Michael Brown, 37, who runs Brown’s Dream Team Landscaping, was hired to mow the lawn at a luxury home in Weddington. But instead of sticking to yard work, he hosted a huge party while the homeowners were away on vacation.

According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, hundreds of teens and young adults showed up, with each guest reportedly paying an entry fee that Brown kept. Loud music, packed streets, and a flood of partygoers raised alarms in the quiet neighborhood, prompting neighbors to call the police.

“I was like, that’s not a venue. How are they managing this?” said nearby resident Wendy Squires. “We were disturbed with all the traffic and the people and not knowing what’s happening.”

When officers arrived to shut down the chaos, Brown claimed to be the homeowner and said the party was a graduation celebration for his son. That explanation quickly fell apart, and police identified him as the organizer.

Brown was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including breaking and entering, second-degree trespassing, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, injury to real property, and obtaining property by false pretenses. He later posted a $10,000 bond.

Despite the charges, Brown remained defiant. “I didn’t break the law, I just broke some rules of probably what the owners didn’t want me to do,” he told WSOCTV9. He admitted to throwing the party for his son and claimed guests weren’t paying an entry fee but contributing toward security costs.

However, police aren’t buying it. Lieutenant James Maye said officers recovered more than $3,000 and found evidence of underage drinking among the estimated 300 to 400 attendees.

Brown insisted the homeowners knew he was supposed to be there, even claiming, “I’m like their son.” But coming home to a trashed lawn turned party zone likely wasn’t what they had in mind when they hired him for landscaping.
