Megan Dunkin, 31, of Harwinton, turned herself in to police on Tuesday, June 24, facing multiple charges after a disturbing series of events earlier this month, according to the Connecticut State Police.
The incident began on June 12 when Dunkin’s boyfriend said she started acting erratically—running around their home, rambling, and laughing while burning a hole in a shower curtain. After briefly calming down, she reportedly moved several firearms from an upstairs room to their bedroom.
The next morning, he awoke to find Dunkin pointing a gun at his face. According to the arrest warrant, she told him she was the devil, he was St. Michael, and claimed people were after them. She also allegedly said their neighbors were apostles who needed to be killed.
As he tried to de-escalate the situation, she allegedly hit him with a pair of binoculars. He told police she had smoked fentanyl that morning.
He called someone for help and walked away from the house. Moments later, he heard gunshots and saw the home on fire. It’s unclear whether Dunkin fired at him or if the ammunition inside the house exploded due to the flames.
Responding officers found Dunkin shirtless, screaming about the fire, and speaking incoherently.
She was charged with first-degree threatening and second-degree breach of peace. Police say additional charges may follow. Dunkin is currently being held on a $200,000 bond.
