Rudy Giuliani lashed out at Democratic lawmakers following their sharp rebuke of Donald Trump’s recent airstrikes on Iran, accusing them of undermining national security and even suggesting they should face treason charges.
During an appearance on Newsmax, the former New York City mayor and longtime Trump ally condemned Democrats for what he called dangerous rhetoric in a time of heightened military risk.
“I find what the Democrats are doing — they want an impeachment, they should be tried for treason,” Giuliani said. “American and military personnel are right now in harm’s way coming back from that strike, and they are in harm’s way all over the Middle East. And they are condemning the president for taking action against a country that wants to annihilate us.”
While Giuliani didn’t name anyone specifically, the Newsmax host pointed out that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) had recently called for Trump’s impeachment over the unauthorized military action.
“The President’s disastrous decision to bomb Iran without authorization is a grave violation of the Constitution and Congressional War Powers,” Ocasio-Cortez posted on X (formerly Twitter). “He has impulsively risked launching a war that may ensnare us for generations. … It is absolutely and clearly grounds for impeachment.”
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) fired back at AOC on social media as well, writing:
“Shut up you pathetic little hypocrite. YOU fully supported our military and IC running the proxy war against Russia in Ukraine. And you VOTED to fund the Ukraine war under your President with dementia. You don’t get to play anti-war and moral outrage anymore.”
Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) also slammed Trump’s strike in a newsletter, calling it unconstitutional:
“President Trump sending U.S. troops to bomb Iran without the consent of Congress is a blatant violation of our Constitution. The American people do not want another forever war.”
The political fallout comes as tensions continue to escalate in the Middle East following Trump’s decision to carry out airstrikes without congressional approval. While Republicans largely defended the action as a necessary show of strength, many Democrats argue it bypasses the War Powers Resolution and threatens to drag the U.S. into another prolonged conflict.
