A Windsor resident is celebrating a life-changing lottery win after claiming the top prize in the Connecticut Lottery’s $20,000 a Year For Life 2nd Edition scratch game.
According to lottery officials, the winner was so shocked that she had her son double-check the ticket — and still couldn’t believe it. On Tuesday, she chose the lump sum cash option of $440,000, instead of the annual $20,000 payout for life.
She told the Connecticut Lottery she plans to use the money to buy a house and take a dream vacation to the Caribbean.
The lucky ticket was purchased at Mirna Mobil Food Mart on Blue Hills Avenue in Bloomfield. As a reward for selling the winning ticket, the retailer will receive a $4,400 bonus.
The odds of winning the top prize in this game were over 1 in 3.3 million. To win, players must uncover the “win for life” symbol.
Launched in September 2022, the second edition of the game still has one top prize remaining, according to lottery officials.
This win follows another lucky couple from Wolcott, who on Monday opted for the $390,000 lump sum in the $25,000 a Year for Life game.
